The Thor: Love and Thunder actor said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that he will be taking a hiatus from acting after finding that he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene, which dramatically increases his risk of acquiring Alzheimer's disease. During a bloodwork panel for his upcoming Disney+ documentary series Limitless, which is about time, aging, and death, the 39-year-old actor learned about this hereditary propensity.

He had originally intended to have a doctor explain everything to him on camera, but when the results came in, he said that everything had changed. "Peter Attia, who is the longevity doctor in that episode and oversees a lot of the show, called [show creator] Darren [Aronofsky] and said, 'I don't want to tell him this on camera,'" he said to the magazine. To find out whether he even wants this to be on the show, we need to have an off-side talk.

"It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off," he said, adding that he's still in the midst of fulfilling work obligations he's contracted to do. "Now when I finish this tour this week, I'm going home and I'm going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife."
